Our journey thus far

Sage & Fifth Therapy Place is a mindfulness based therapy practice in Washington, DC that emerged from seeing a need for holistic healing in our lives, as individuals and as a community, now more than ever.

We are on a mission to break the stereotypical box that society tries to put therapy and mental health counseling in. We take pride in using every tool in our tool box to empower you to you connect with you inner resilience and relationship resilience. It’s not just talk therapy or meditation or somatic bodywork or emotion focused, it’s all of it! Because why shouldn’t it be?

Your hour (sometimes more) with your therapist will be a unique mix of therapeutic interventions focused on your goals. From talk therapy to somatic interventions to meditation to couples therapy to trauma informed therapy, we keep digging deep in our tool box as you let us walk alongside you on your journey of self and relationship discovery.

Since our launch, our team has grown in it’s diversity and geography. In 2022, we expanded our team to offer therapy to Maryland clients in addition to our clients in Washington, DC.

The name, Sage & Fifth, is inspired by indigenous peoples practice of burning Sage as part of a spiritual ritual to cleanse and promote healing and the Fifth Chakra, also known as Vishuddha, responsible for communication, self-expression, and the ability to speak your personal truth. Our name is a grounding force in our practice and reminds us to hold space for the the holistic healing that is possible when we have an awareness of our body, mind and soul as we connect deeper with ourselves and others.

What People Are Saying

When I met Huma I was an adult revisiting some childhood traumas. I had been in counseling at various times in my life and found Huma to be very different from other practitioners. Huma did more than listen, she provided strategies to assist me in and out of sessions. I am stronger as a result of the work I did with Huma.

Of all the counselors/therapists I have worked with, Elise ended up being my absolute favorite and someone who I believe I made the most growth and progress with. I can't thank her enough for the impact she made in my life.

— C. G..

Huma has an uncanny ability to tune in to wherever I am and make connections I don't think I would've ever made on my own. It's a relief having Huma as my therapist. My time with her is something I look forward to every single week, and I don't think many people say that about therapy.

— Elyse.

I wanted to share with you how much our session helped me today, and really how helpful I always find our sessions. I am so impressed by your ability to tune into wherever I am.

— Caitlin.

Trauma can disconnect us from ourselves and others. We want to help you overcome what’s holding you back.
